Stick Man Christmas Trail

Cribbs Causeway, Bristol

An interactive Christmas trail bringing to life the pages from Julia Donaldson’s Best seller book, Stick Man

With over 75 million books sold, author Julia Donaldson is one of the worlds most successful children’s authors with Stick Man being one of her most loved stories, read by millions. Stick man has been a resident on children’s bookshelves in the UK since it was first published in 2008 so it was the perfect fit for a family friendly Christmas activation to draw footfall to the centre.

Working alongside the licence holder, Bakehouse built a Stick Man trail comprised of 10 3D, interactive stations pulling out parts of the story and Axel Schaffler’s iconic illustrations. Each station brings to life a page from the book and includes a trail sheet embosser to mark off each point in the trail, with sound effects and play on elements included too. The trail delivered multiple photo opportunities and and was an activity the whole family could enjoy.

The trail at Cribbs saw over 28,000 visitors in under a month.

with 11,000 trail booklets distributed over December and delivered 60,000 interactions on each of the interactive elements.

The trail was designed to be a standalone, self-led activation but was accompanied by a theatrical musical show and storytelling with Santa himself with multiple sessions on select days. The middle of the mall became the iconic tree from the story, creating a magnificent centrepiece and backdrop for the shows.

We delivered 72 story times with an average of 71 children per session and 56 shows across the event run with a total combined focused audience of 9,275. This is an average of 166 viewers per show- not including passers by!
